Bay windows are just as much a feature in modern urban homes as they were in the Victorian and post war housing era. They create a light, airy feeling, whilst also giving extra floor area.

Dressing bay windows to capitalise on not only the beauty but also on the level of light they enable to add to the room is quite a subject as there are many various options – whether you wish to have blinds as well as curtains, just curtains or just blinds, but once you have decided on your course of action, then you need to decide which kind of blind or curtain pole will be suitable for your particular style of bay window. This blog offers expert advice to guide you through the various options available, helping you find the best solution for your particular bay window.

CURTAIN POLES

One of the most noticeable changes that have taken place in the manufacture of curtain poles in recent years is that it is no longer a nightmare to try to find a suitable curtain pole to fit a bay window. New technology has enabled innovative solutions for overcoming the problems relating to the corners of a bay window.

Many of these curtain poles are also available for straight windows so that a room that has a combination of both window styles can have matching poles at all the windows or double curtain poles which enable multi-layered curtains to hang from a double pole at the same window.

Most bay window poles also come with an exciting choice of curtain finials giving carte blanche to your imagination.

CURTAIN TRACKS

Curtain tracks are available in plastic or metal and are often used in a bay window. They can be ceiling or wall fixed and can often be bent by hand at home. They are easy to fit and when fitted to a white backdrop become barely noticeable. Some curtain tracks are available with a special pelmet track so a valance or pelmet can also be considered in your design ideas.

Curtain tracks are usually available corded or uncorded and are often used behind coving or a pelmet board hidden from view. The track, especially if it is a simple plastic type is not necessarily pleasing to the eye and is often best hidden from view by the pelmet detailing.

BLINDS

Various styles of blinds are suitable for bay windows, roman blinds, roller blinds, venetian and pleated blinds are all ideal for fitting in a bay window, but need to be individual blinds fitted to each straight section of the bay. Vertical blinds are the only blinds that can be supplied to fit the bay as a complete section with the track made to your particular measurements, either in a constant curve or around each section of the bay.
